Born from Ethiopia’s Potential
Ethiopia holds significant potential within the precious metals sector. For years, however, much of the country’s precious metal resources have moved beyond its borders before reaching the refining stage. This has taken away the country’s opportunities for local value addition, stronger market connections, and industry development.
From this opportunity, an idea was born: to bring internationally aligned refining expertise closer to the source and build it around the realities of the Ethiopian market.
National Precious Metals Refinery (NPM) was established to turn that idea into a long-term industry platform.
Developed by SAM Precious Metals in partnership with Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH), NPM brings SAM’s globally recognized refining expertise to Ethiopia, adapted to local market requirements and the country’s evolving precious metals landscape.
But NPM’s purpose extends beyond refining.
We aim to contribute to a stronger precious metals ecosystem by supporting industry infrastructure, strengthening market linkages, advancing compliance and responsible practices, and creating greater opportunities for precious metals to be refined and prepared for market within Ethiopia.
Through its world-class standards and locally practical solutions, NPM seeks to provide a comprehensive destination for refining and other precious metals requirements while helping connect Ethiopia more effectively with regional and international markets.
